The 4th of July holiday for us marks the start of the summer slowdown. And after being busy, busy, busy with farm work since early March, it’s a welcome change of pace. Working around afternoon rain showers, we spent some time each day relaxing in the pool. We also spent a good bit of time cooking farm-centric meals and freezing tomatoes and peppers to enjoy later in the year.
The routine farm work of harvesting, weeding, and watering we try to accomplish early or late in the day to avoid the midday heat as much as possible. That alone limits how much work can get done in a day, but the veggies cooperate by not requiring too much maintenance. And the rain has helped us recently by making it so we’ve hardly had to water at all.
We hope you also found ways to slow down over this holiday, and that you had a restful and relaxing Independence Day.
